SNC-Lavalin is pleased to announce that, together with the Society for Professional Engineers & Associates (SPEA), an agreement has been struck to enter into arbitration with regard to the development of a first collective agreement for operations and administrative (OA) staff. Despite the Company’s best efforts, the OA bargaining unit has been without a collective agreement since it was certified in 2018. The OA bargaining unit represents Document Controllers, Bid Leads, Project Controls Specialists, Procurement Leads, Facility Specialists and Financial Analysts, among other job categories.
“An independent arbitrator will ensure that our employees represented by the OA bargaining unit have a contract that properly reflects the important contributions they make to our organization,” said Bill Fox, President, Candu Energy Inc. a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group. “We are pleased to work collaboratively with the arbitrator for a fair and balanced deal for both our unionized employees and the company. This will also free us up to concentrate on negotiating new collective agreements with our three other bargaining units”.
While a contract is being negotiated, employees represented by SPEA OA continue to enjoy the same health, dental benefits, sick leave and protection from harassment that all unrepresented Candu Energy employees do.
Candu Energy is currently bargaining with its scientists and engineers (SE), trades and technicians (TT) and draftspeople (PD).
“We look forward to settling with all of our bargaining units, and continuing our very important work of extending the life of Ontario’s CANDU reactors to provide affordable clean energy for another 30 years, and collaborating with SMR vendors on the next waves of safe and reliable new nuclear technology, thus helping Ontario and Canada achieve their net-zero targets and enabling our clients’ production of life-saving medical isotopes,” said Mr. Fox.
