Port Everglades Capital Investment Program Management

on this page

Port Everglades is one of the nation’s most diverse seaports. Located in Broward County on the southeast coast of the Florida peninsula, it is one of the top three cruise homeports in the world. It’s also among the most active cargo ports in the country, handling over 1 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEU) of containerized cargo annually and serving as South Florida’s main gateway for receiving petroleum products, including gasoline and jet fuel.

To enhance its world-class cruise business and meet the demands of its growing cargo business, Port Everglades is investing $3 billion in capital improvements within the next 20 years, the largest capital investment program in the port’s history. This capital investment includes modernizing and expanding cruise terminals, creating new berths, deploying new ship-to-shore Super Post-Panamax gantry cranes, expanding storage areas and dredging navigation channels. Since the program’s inception in 2016, we have served as capital projects manager, leading all aspects of the program’s execution. Our team has handled concept planning, interagency coordination, design consultant management, contract management, contractor engagement, construction oversight and project closeouts to maximize the utility and capacity of the port’s assets.

Recent projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Southport Turning Notch Extension: We managed design and permitting for the expansion of the vessel turning notch, encompassing more than $381 million in improvements over three-and-a-half years. Our scope of work included 1 million cubic yards dredging, 2 million cubic yards of mass excavations, material disposal, over 4,000 linear feet of new bulkhead and supporting infrastructure for container storage yards.
  • Northport Slip 1 Expansion: Currently in design and permitting for new bulkheads, dredging improvements, petroleum site remediation, utilities and other upland improvements, construction is estimated to cost $184 million and last three-and-a-half years.
  • Northport Slip 2 Expansion: We managed the design and installation of over $13 million in new bulkheads, dredging improvements, utilities and other upland improvements.
  • Northport Cruise Terminal 4 Improvements: We oversaw site investigations, engineering, design, permitting and construction to address interior and exterior improvements to Terminal 4, the Berth 4 apron and waterfront berthing facilities. The total construction cost was $30 million.
  • Southport Gantry Cranes and Landside Improvements: We managed design and permitting and are supervising construction for over $77 million in structural and electrical improvements to support the deployment of three new, low-profile, Super Post-Panamax gantry cranes.
  • Northport Cruise Terminals 2 and 4 Parking Deck: We provided construction management services for a new, $117 million cruise passenger parking facility containing more than 1,800 spaces.
  • Southport Container Yard IX-B: We managed design, permitting and construction of an 18-acre container storage yard totaling over $12 million.
  • Southport International Logistics Center. As part of a public-private-partnership with CenterPoint Properties, we provided owner’s representation services for the development of a $70 million, 300,000 square-foot center containing dry warehouse, refrigerated warehouse, office space and cross-docking facilities.

For more than 40 years, our team has served Broward County by providing planning, engineering analysis, design, environmental permitting and construction-related services.
