The USTA launched an ambitious program to modernize and expand some of the most important tennis facilities in the United States, including the home of the US Open.

The challenge
The USTA set out to transform its flagship tennis venues across New York, Florida and Ohio, including the home of the US Open. Our role
Since 2014, we have served as a trusted advisor to the USTA, providing integrated program, project and commercial management services across a portfolio of venue modernization, expansion and new development projects in New York, Florida and Ohio. We helped establish the governance, controls, and leadership needed to deliver complex projects while maximizing the investment value.
Key contributions included:
- Providing program leadership, governance and decision-making support across a portfolio of concurrent projects and stakeholders.
- Serving as program manager, cost estimator and owner's representative for the transformation of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, including the Arthur Ashe Stadium roof and redevelopment of Louis Armstrong Stadium.
- Identifying value optimization opportunities that reduced Arthur Ashe Stadium project costs by approximately 12%, generating $19 million in savings while maintaining project objectives.
- Managing delivery of the USTA National Campus in Florida, helping achieve on-time and on-budget completion while enabling additional facility enhancements.
- Leading program, construction and cost management services for the expansion of the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Ohio.
- Acting as Owner's Representative and Program Manager for the USTA 2.0 program delivering a new Player Performance Building, hospitality upgrades and critical infrastructure improvements ahead of future US Open tournaments.
By combining program leadership, commercial expertise and rigorous project controls, AtkinsRéalis helped the USTA make informed investment decisions, manage risk and deliver transformational facilities that enhance the experience of players, coaches and fans.

The impact
Through its facilities transformation program, the USTA has enhanced the experience of players, coaches, fans and event organizers while strengthening the future of tennis in the United States. The program has modernized flagship venues, improved investment performance and created world-class facilities that support both elite competition and athlete development.
Key outcomes include:
- $19 million in cost savings on the Arthur Ashe Stadium project through value optimization and cost control.
- Expanded capacity by approximately 10,000 spectators per day at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center during the US Open.
- Successful delivery of the USTA National Campus, creating a world-class training, competition and education destination for athletes at every level of the game.
- On-time and on-budget project delivery that enabled additional investments in facility enhancements and technology improvements.
- Improved governance and decision-making through a standardized enterprise project management platform that provides greater visibility and control across capital investments.
