Dhoho International Airport marks a transformative milestone in Indonesia’s aviation landscape as the country’s first greenfield regional airport built to international standards. Conceived to enhance regional connectivity and unlock economic potential in East Java, the project reflects a bold vision for modern infrastructure development. Our team played a pivotal role in shaping the airport’s design and strategic positioning – bringing together global best practices, local insights, and sustainable planning to deliver a future-ready gateway that supports long-term growth and regional integration.
A Vision for Regional Transformation
Near the city of Kediri in East Java, a transformative project is taking flight – Dhoho International Airport, a greenfield regional airport built to international standards. Positioned to improve access across the region and ease congestion in major cities like Jakarta and Surabaya, the airport is a bold step toward modernizing the country’s infrastructure. Developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), it’s designed to boost regional connectivity, unlock economic growth, support tourism, and open new opportunities for domestic and international travel.
Designing with Purpose: Our Role in Shaping the Airport
As Lead Designer, AtkinsRéalis’ architects and engineers were entrusted to bring this ambitious vision to life. Bringing global expertise to a landmark project in Southeast Asia, we developed the airport’s schematic design, covering everything from the runway and terminal to the roads and utility systems. Our scope covered 4 key areas: Airside Infrastructure, Specialised Airport Systems/Facilities, Terminal Building & Ancillary Buildings, and Landside Infrastructure.
We designed:
- A 3,300-meter runway and aircraft aprons to accommodate commercial, VIP aircrafts, helipads and rescue facilities
- A modern passenger terminal for both domestic and international passengers with check-in counters, self-service kiosks, security checkpoints, immigration and customs facilities, contact gates, bus gates and swing areas for flexible international/domestic processing
- A 62-meter-high air traffic control tower, cargo facilities, and support buildings (utility, offices and car parks)
- Advanced airport systems including navigation aids, IT infrastructure, and baggage handling
- Landside infrastructure such as access roads and utility networks built to national standards
Our approach combined global expertise with local insight, ensuring the airport meets international benchmarks while serving the unique needs of East Java.
