AtkinsRéalis has a long history of delivering successful public rail and transit projects within the province of British Columbia, and across Canada. Having successfully delivered the original Millennium Line, the Evergreen extension, and the Canada Line in Metro Vancouver, we are excited to bring our continued drive for excellence and our extensive experience in rail and transit to the Province of B.C.’s 16-kilometre-long Surrey Langley SkyTrain (SLS) Project.
Running on an elevated guideway, the project includes 8 stations and 3 transit exchanges. When it enters service in 2029, the journey on the new extension between the terminus station in Langley and the existing Expo Line terminus station in Surrey will take 22 minutes. Fully electric, automated, driverless trains will serve an average weekday ridership of 80,000 people and reduce daily vehicle travel by 330,000 kilometres, cutting approximately 106,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year. Once operational, the extension will provide transit access to more than 20,000 new jobs and is expected to have more than 100,000 residents living within 800 metres of the new stations. The project also includes14 kilometres of new multi-use walking and cycling pathways.
