The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) has experienced unprecedented growth over the past decade and have added campuses in League City, Angleton Danbury and Clear Lake to advance their mission to improve healthcare for the people of Texas. UTMB also continues to expand their Galveston Campus and build numerous facilities that support patient care, education and research. UTMB engaged us on seven projects to support their campus renovation efforts and new construction programs. Our team provided project management, transition planning, warehousing, hospital loading (assembly and installation of medical and non-medical equipment), relocating and closeout services.

Regional Mother and Child Health Program and Transplant Services, Beaumont

Formerly known as the Regional Maternal Child Health Program, this newly renovated 13,000 sq ft space brought a fresh, new look and feel to create an inviting and comfortable area for women and children to receive healthcare. This effort required careful planning and transition to move the department from one location to the newly renovated building while simultaneously preventing a drop-in service to the surrounding community.

Jennie Sealy Heart Center, Galveston

Previously known as Invasive Cardiology Services, the Jennie Sealy Heart Center is 31,500 sq ft of newly renovated space inside the Jennie Sealy Hospital. Additions to the center included three heart catheter labs, one electrophysiology (EP) lab and 13 beds for pre- and post- surgery. This project required initial outfitting and transition services including warehousing, delivery to site of all procured equipment, installation, orientation to the new space, day in the life (DITL) training and a Life Code training program. Due to the nature in which this project was executed, the Jennie Sealy Heart Center experienced little to no disturbance to their patient care.

John Sealy Hospital Modernization, Galveston

UTMB wanted to modernize and expand patient rooms and technologies, including the addition of 205 patient beds. The five-floor, 241,000 sq ft renovated space houses services for women, infants and children. This project required a multi-phased approach in which several departments, each requiring their own transition schedule, moved into a temporary space that had been renovated previously. By facilitating several work-breakdown structures, we ensured the hospital could continue to provide healthcare services to the local community while providing orientation and training to the staff. We worked closely with clinical staff for a seamless transfer of patients and materials during department moves, all while maintaining patient safety.

Health Education Center, Galveston

UTMB needed to significantly expand their ability to provide interdisciplinary training, active learning and training through patient simulation. Their new 161,000 sq ft Health Education Center has more classroom space, a new auditorium and education and conference space to accommodate their growing student population. We were involved in the building load, occupancy planning and implementation/installation for nine departments while working within the constraints of student testing and semester requirements. Additionally, we also provided decommissioning services to the left behind space.

League City Campus Expansion, League City

The new five-story, 180,885 sq ft patient tower expansion features several new departments and amenities encompassing 60 new patient beds. The project was fast-tracked due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for more patient-ready space to accommodate the expected patient surge. By staying vigilant, our team met the new project deadline with minimal risk.

In addition, over 25,000 sq ft of renovation work was needed to help support departments that were affected by the Clear Lake Campus opening.

Primary and Specialty Care, Town Center Expansion, League City

Once known as Victory Lakes Town Center, this expansion project included building loading, occupancy and relocation of a 42,000 sq ft outpatient clinic. This space was designed to provide the latest state-of-the-art care in a peaceful and healing setting to better serve patients. The scope included equipment inventory and planning, procurement assistance, equipment warehouse and delivery, installation, clinical workflow planning and relocation of personnel and equipment. The expansion included the dermatology and radiology departments and conference rooms.

Clear Lake Campus, Clear Lake

UTMB entered a long-term lease to revive the Webster hospital that closed under another operator. The nine-story, 375,000 sq ft facility was transformed to provide health care services for Clear Lake, a region that is one of the fastest-growing in Texas. Our team provided complete activation services for this medical center, which included full inventory services, clinical and non-clinical workflow planning, schedule development, building and life safety orientations, as well as building familiarization for an estimated 700 new employees.

Added value

Providing an experienced and client-focused project manager helped to assuage many of the problems that would occur and minimize risks to the projects. Our out-of-the-box thinking and willingness to accommodate client requests and changes empowered us to provide immediate solutions to project obstacles.
