RICHLAND, Wash., USA: Atkins Nuclear Secured, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, has formed a partner/reseller agreement with Boston Dynamics, Inc. to distribute the Spot® agile mobile robot for various applications in markets across the world. Near term, SNC-Lavalin intends to focus on applications presenting hazard or potential hazards to humans performing routine tasks, such as those routinely encountered in the nuclear industry. The Spot quadruped robot has unique features that make it capable of navigating difficult terrains and can be equipped with instruments and equipment to perform specialty tasks, such as scanning and sensing.
“We are excited about this agreement with Boston Dynamics and view Spot as one of a number of new ventures we’re initiating in our digital/robotics transformation,” said Tom Jouvanis, President, Atkins Nuclear Secured. “Spot will allow us to reduce risks to workers in historically hazardous and challenging environments.”
As part of the agreement, SNC-Lavalin has purchased a demonstration Spot robot that will be located at the Atkins Engineering Laboratory in Richland, Washington.
Spot can navigate difficult terrains and climb stairs during site inspections.
