DERBY, UK: April, 2020 - SNC-Lavalin now has the rights to develop, support and license VAMPIRE® Pro, the modelling package used globally to simulate the dynamic behavior of railway vehicles in response to track and other external forces.
The announcement follows the decision by Resonate, the current owners of VAMPIRE® Pro, to withdraw from vehicle dynamics consultancy, and to freeze VAMPIRE® at its current production version. Under the agreement with Resonate, SNC-Lavalin has the rights to exploit the source code and will continue to develop, support and license the software which allows cost-effective analysis of rail vehicle safety and performance through simulation.
Farzana Hampshire, Dynamics, Gauging & Testing Team Lead, SNC-Lavalin, said: “The rights to develop, support and license VAMPIRE® and the commitment to continue its development allows our independent team of railway dynamics engineers to innovate and help our clients all around the world."
“Securing the rights to develop, support and license VAMPIRE® means we can further develop the software and provide end users with new optimized tools, such as improved longitudinal dynamics, in-line wheel/rail contact and advanced track modelling in VAMPIRE®’s easy-to-use environment.”
New and existing users will be provided with continued licensing, long-term development, and support of the product, so that its stability is guaranteed for the foreseeable future. Customers whose licence is about to expire, or has expired, should contact SNC-Lavalin for a temporary licence while discussions continue about their future licensing needs.
As well as annual VAMPIRE® licensing including maintenance and technical support, flexible licence options will be made available, including: packages to upgrade from perpetual licences to annual supported licences providing the latest developments, and shorter term licences. Packages will also be on offer to academic institutions for non-commercial project work. Training courses in VAMPIRE® and vehicle dynamics will be available from the highly experienced railway dynamics team, comprising of many developers and support staff with decades of VAMPIRE® experience - some of whom have historically worked within the VAMPIRE® software team and Resonate.
VAMPIRE® Pro has been used on railway projects across the UK, Europe, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Australia, USA, Canada, Brazil and South Africa.
