Atkins to provide multidisciplinary design consultancy for power upgrade on operating MTR lines in Hong Kong

Hong Kong: July 29, 2020 – Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, announces it has been awarded a multidisciplinary design consultancy services contract for the power upgrade of three operating MTR lines in Hong Kong, which have been in operation for 40 years.

Atkins was appointed by China Railway Electrification Engineering Group (CREG), a subsidiary of China Railway Engineering Company (CREC), as their consultant for life cycle costing, system assurance and risk management, human factors, electromagnetic compatibility, asset management and obsolescence management, and independent checking of building services design.

The project will be delivered by a team of MEP engineers and system engineering consultants over the course of 7 years. Upon completion, the uplifted power system will provide better system resilience to sustain the high train service performance targets and meet the future power demand of additional train service capacity.
