Chris Conboy to lead SNC-Lavalin Nuclear and Power in EMEA

Tuesday 04 July 2023

Chris Conboy has been appointed to take on the role of Managing Director, Nuclear & Power – EMEA, effective from 17 July, 2023.

Chris has been Operations & Commercial Director for the region since 2020 and has held a number of positions within the leadership team since he first joined the company in 2007, including Regional Head of Nuclear for the Middle East and Strategy & Bids Director, leading the development of commercial and bid strategies for Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA).

Christophe Junillon has stepped down from the position and will leave the organisation in August 2023 after 28 years. Christophe’s significant contributions to SNC-Lavalin include playing an instrumental role in the early concept development of Fusion Reactors in the ITER programme, along with overseeing the Group’s growth in Nuclear New Build projects in the region. Christophe will remain with the organisation until August 30 2023 to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.

Joe St Julian, President of Nuclear, SNC-Lavalin, said, “Our Nuclear & Power business in EMEA has seen significant growth in recent years as we support ambitious programmes across the nuclear lifecycle, help clients to navigate the net zero energy transition, and advance new technologies like fusion power, hydrogen and SMR. Chris Conboy has been at the forefront of our progress in the region and is well placed to accelerate our ambitions as we seek to grow our projects and expand our teams across the UK, Europe and the Middle East.”

SNC-Lavalin provides end-to-end solutions across the full nuclear life cycle in the region, including design and engineering services to EDF’s nuclear new build programme at Hinkley Point C and the proposed Sizewell C site, as well as the UAE’s first nuclear plant at Barakah on behalf of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), alongside plant operations & reactor life extension with EDF in the UK and site decommissioning & remediation works with Sellafield and Magnox. Our Advanced Energy Technologies are working on the development and commercialisation of fusion power at ITER and the UK Atomic Energy Authority’s STEP programme, and our work with Rolls Royce SMR is helping to advance Small Modular Reactor technologies in the UK.

Through its wider Net Zero Energy capabilities, SNC-Lavalin works with clients including National Grid, SSE, Equinor and Ineos, supporting the development and deployment of low carbon energy technologies and infrastructure in the region, including renewable development, hydrogen production and storage projects,  industrial decarbonisation; and supporting the upgrade and delivery of new transmission and distribution networks as countries expand and upgrade their infrastructure to support their energy transition.
