SPARKS, Nev., USA: Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, was awarded a three-and-a-half-year, $8.5 million contract by the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County, Nevada (RTC) to provide environmental services, preliminary engineering and final design for improvements for a three-mile segment of Sparks Boulevard from Greg Street to Baring Boulevard in Sparks, just east of Reno. The company received the notice to proceed in late April and work will begin immediately. This contract is within SNCL Engineering Services, the cornerstone of our strategy moving forward to greater growth and profitability.
“With a variety of geographical features, natural resources, water resources, water conveyances and existing infrastructure, our team understands the technical challenges within this integral regional corridor, as well as the vision and needs of this community,” said David Dodson, Project Manager, Atkins. “The complexities of this area require a balanced, innovative approach, which we will deliver in collaboration with the RTC, City of Sparks, Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), the public and stakeholders.”
Under the contract, the company will address deficiencies and further develop recommended improvements identified in RTC’s Sparks Boulevard Multi-Modal Corridor Study and provide solutions to roadway capacity, safety issues, environmental considerations, projected land use and future right-of-way needs and constraints.
