Atkins awarded bridge design and rehabilitation professional engineering services contract by Pinellas County

CLEARWATER, Fla., USAAtkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, was awarded a $2 million, five-year master services agreement contract by the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners to provide professional engineering services for the delivery of various projects within the County’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP). This contract is the first of a new line of procurements targeted at a specific discipline within the area of transportation engineering.

Under the contract, the company will provide services to include primarily bridges and structural engineering related to design, plans preparation, permit acquisition, construction specifications and associated engineering services to be issued as work assignments. The project will include small bridge design and rehabilitation projects for fixed and movable bridges. Some tasks may include spall repairs, cathodic protection, pile jackets, strand splices, minor bridge replacements, disaster assessment, emergency response and permitting/planning.

“We have partnered with Florida municipalities providing engineering and environmental consulting services for more than half a century,” said David Konz, Atkins Project Manager. “From delivering the project development and environmental (PD&E) study for SR679 Pinellas Bayway Structure E over the Intracoastal Waterway, to leading the design of the I-4/Lee Roy Selmon Expressway expansion with 23 bridge ramps and 4,000 precast concrete segments, our multidisciplinary team will continue to provide the support and expertise needed to keep bridges and structures safe throughout Florida.”

Atkins was one of five firms selected out of sixteen that responded to the County procurement. The company holds similar contracts in West Florida with Sarasota County and Collier County.
