AtkinsRéalis comments on launch of Greater Cambridge development corporation in the UK

UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves has announced a dedicated body will be set up to deal with the regeneration of Greater Cambridge as part of plans to transform its shared region with Oxford.

Commenting on the plans Richard Bonner, managing director of Buildings and Places at AtkinsRéalis said: “The Oxford and Cambridge region has significant potential for driving regional economic growth with infrastructure such as East West Rail providing firm foundations, and this announcement is a really positive step towards that.

“Investors are drawn to regional growth programmes for a range of reasons – with the opportunity to support regeneration and growth in specific regions and alignment with long-term government strategies as the two most prominent.

“Regional growth plans recognise that infrastructure opportunities are interlinked and standalone projects in themselves do little to create region-wide uplift.

“As such, housing demand is unlocked through effective transport links and transport investment unlocks land value attracting further commercial activity. This will drive growth and ultimately open up opportunities for people living and working in the Greater Cambridge region.”
