Hong Kong: June 12, 2026 – AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. (TSX: ATRL), a world-class engineering services and nuclear company, in joint venture with AECOM, has been awarded a design and construction services contract by the Highways Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government for the Northern Metropolis Highway (San Tin Section). The appointment marks a significant step forward in delivering one of Hong Kong’s most important infrastructure priorities, reinforcing AtkinsRéalis’ role in shaping large-scale, city-enabling transport networks that support long-term growth, connectivity and economic resilience.
As a central transport initiative underpinning the Northern Metropolis Development Strategy, the Northern Metropolis Highway will strengthen connectivity across New Territories North while enabling the next phase of housing delivery, innovation and technology development, and sustained economic growth. The San Tin Section is being progressed as the first implementation priority within the wider programme, establishing a critical foundation that will unlock subsequent phases of development across the Northern Metropolis.
AtkinsRéalis will support the delivery of an approximately 9-kilometre strategic highway corridor connecting Yuen Long Highway and Tsing Long Highway near the Ngau Tam Mei New Development Area and San Tin Technopole. Designed as a direct east-west corridor across northern Hong Kong, the project will improve connectivity between key development areas while introducing a dual three-lane highway that significantly increases network capacity to support future population and economic growth. The project comprises a combination of viaduct, at-grade road and tunnel sections, together with major interchanges and associated infrastructure. The joint venture will deliver design development, procurement support and construction management and supervision, coordinating the delivery of a complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure programme.
Building on its earlier role in the Northern Metropolis Highway Investigation Study, AtkinsRéalis brings continuity and a deep understanding of the technical, environmental and stakeholder considerations shaping the programme. With global experience in delivering major transport corridors and integrated infrastructure systems, AtkinsRéalis will support the development of a resilient, future-ready network designed to accommodate long-term population growth and economic expansion across northern Hong Kong.
“The Northern Metropolis Highway reflects the scale and direction of Hong Kong’s next phase of development, where infrastructure is required to enable new communities, economic activity and long-term regional connectivity. As the first implementation priority within the wider programme, the San Tin Section establishes a critical foundation for how the Northern Metropolis will evolve over time, unlocking housing supply, innovation clusters and technology-driven growth. We are bringing together global expertise and local understanding to deliver a transport corridor that is resilient, connected and designed to support sustained growth across Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area for decades to come,” said Wing Law, Chief Executive Office, Asia, AtkinsRéalis.
The project will also integrate digital engineering and advanced delivery approaches, including Building Information Modelling (BIM), digital systems, and lifecycle management. These capabilities will support more efficient delivery while enhancing long-term asset performance, operational resilience, and whole-life value across one of the city’s most ambitious development corridors.
