DALLAS, Texas, USA: Atkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, has welcomed Mark Vander Voort as national director of architecture. Experienced in developing strategy for design teams and organizations, Mark will work to elevate architectural operations across North America, leveraging the Company’s strength in education and public work, and building from centers of excellence in Texas, Florida, Virginia and Colorado.
“From value-added design to risk mitigation, Mark’s expertise is multi-disciplined,” said David Harper, Chief Design Officer and Practice Leader, Atkins. “His track record in helping clients understand conceptual opportunities and delivering responsive solutions and effective results is what will position us for exponential growth across the business.”
Mark brings more than 40 years’ experience leading architectural services for various project types and industries, including university and education projects. He served as principal for top-tier design firms, managing design studios, expanding into new markets, increasing profits and developing opportunities in new geographies.
A graduate of Rice University, Mark grew his career in Houston, Texas, where he worked for eminent firms, like CRS, on major projects around the country and in the Middle East. In the late 1980s, he was part of national design teams that envisioned the original Orlando Arena, now known as the Amway Center, and the redevelopment of Prudential Center in Boston. In the mid-1990s, Mark opened the first branch office of PBK Architects in Dallas. In 2002, he joined HKS Architects and helped build the education market sector to a significant enterprise within the firm, represented in six offices. Mark looks forward to positioning Atkins for similar growth and success.
Mark’s community contributions and patronage includes various roles on boards of directors and as a trustee for educational organizations.
