AtkinsRéalis Strengthens U.S. Data Center Team to Scale Mission-Critical Digital Infrastructure Delivery

Wednesday 02 September 2026

Tampa, FL: September 2, 2026 – AtkinsRéalis, a world-class engineering services and nuclear company with offices around the world, today announced the appointment of two leaders to its U.S. data center team as it continues to scale its established presence in mission-critical digital infrastructure across the country.

Robert Gray and Johan Steyn bring experience in cost management, project controls, and hyperscale program delivery, strengthening AtkinsRéalis’ ability to support hyperscalers, developers, utilities, and investors in delivering large-scale digital infrastructure programs across the U.S.

The appointments come as cloud computing and artificial intelligence workloads are driving increased demand for large-scale data center capacity. At the same time, clients are navigating growing pressure on power availability, permitting timelines, supply chains, capital efficiency and speed to market — increasing the need for specialist delivery expertise across complex programs.

“Data center clients are looking for greater certainty around cost, schedule, power and delivery than ever before,” said Jonathan Marshall, Senior Vice President, Buildings, Power and Industrial. “Robert and Johan bring the specialized experience needed to deliver complex programs at hyperscale while helping clients manage risk and make informed decisions. Their addition strengthens our ability to support the rapid expansion of digital infrastructure driven by growing AI and cloud demand.”

Gray brings more than 20 years of construction and cost management experience, with a focus on hyperscale and mission-critical infrastructure. He joins AtkinsRéalis from STACK Infrastructure, where he led cost strategy across large-scale data center programs, and previously held senior roles at Linesight across the U.S., Ireland and Latin America.

With more than 25 years of experience in project controls, scheduling, cost, and risk management, Steyn has supported data center and major infrastructure programs worldwide. Most recently at AECOM, he led project controls and quantity surveying for a U.S. hyperscale facility portfolio exceeding $1 billion in capital value.

AtkinsRéalis’ U.S. data center strategy supports hyperscalers accelerating AI and cloud infrastructure growth, colocation developers expanding capacity, power developers and utilities responding to grid constraints, and investors and landowners evaluating development potential.

The company’s integrated model combines specialized data center expertise with capabilities in engineering, program management, sustainability, permitting, digital delivery, energy advisory and project controls. This approach helps clients manage cost, schedule, risk, procurement and energy-related challenges across complex infrastructure programs. It also positions AtkinsRéalis to support clients across the AI infrastructure ecosystem by helping deliver the energy needed to power AI, the complex facilities where computing takes place, and the digital technologies that optimize performance throughout an asset’s lifecycle.

Through its collaboration with NVIDIA, AtkinsRéalis is advancing AI-ready infrastructure planning and next-generation digital twin capabilities. The company is also helping develop the clean energy infrastructure needed to support growing computing demand, serving as Owner’s Engineer for Energy Northwest’s Xe-100 small modular reactor project supporting Amazon.
