SNC-Lavalin to help ease traffic in Peel Region by providing support for improvements to Mayfield Road

Thursday 11 May 2023

MONTREAL, May 11, 2023 - SNC-Lavalin, a fully integrated professional services and project management company with offices around the world, has been contracted to provide engineering services to Peel Region for improvements to Mayfield Road from Hurontario Street to Heart Lake Road.

In recent years, the Region has witnessed significant traffic growth due to ongoing development within the City of Brampton and the Town of Caledon, and it is undertaking this next phase of widening and improvements to Mayfield Road to meet traffic demands.

Congestion has many negative impacts, namely greenhouse gas emissions, air pollutants, lost productivity, and health impacts. This project will address the need for increased road capacity, infrastructure, and utilities as well as manage existing and future traffic demands. This will help improve active transportation, traffic operations and safety as well as boost the economic development of Peel Region.

“It is a privilege for us to have been chosen to support the Region in the delivery of this project. SNC-Lavalin has delivered more than a dozen similar mandates with Peel Region over the last 20 years, including another section of Mayfield Road to the east. We bring strong knowledge of the Region’s expectations and requirements. Our local teams also have in-depth understanding of the surrounding project and the mitigating issues brought forth by the major stakeholders in this area. We look forward to working with Peel Region and helping them improve mobility for the people living here,” said Ben Almond, Chief Executive Officer, Engineering Services Canada at SNC-Lavalin.

The scope of SNC-Lavalin’s mandate includes:

  • Addressing deficiencies in road geometry and capacity
  • Providing a solution that works for the full build-out of the corridor in terms of existing and planned utilities and adjacent developments
  • Consideration of modal shifts, and the need for a complete street for all users, integrating cycling facilities, improving transit facilities and pedestrian safety, goods movement, and incorporating streetscaping to reflect the Region’s current policies
  • Addressing the needs of stakeholders, and secure, property, easements, approvals, agreements, and permits.
