AtkinsRéalis to Lead Engineering for Idaho Power’s Bennett Mountain Plant Expansion

Project enhances grid reliability and supports Idaho’s growing energy needs

Boise, ID April 7, 2026 – AtkinsRéalis, a world-class engineering services and nuclear company with offices around the world, has been selected by MasTec Industrial Corporation to serve as Engineer of Record for Idaho Power’s planned expansion of the Bennett Mountain Power Plant, a major project designed to strengthen regional grid reliability and support the state’s rapidly increasing energy demand. The 162 MW project will add nine natural gas-powered Reciprocating Internal Combustion Engine (RICE) units to the existing facility, delivering fast start, flexible generation that can help balance the grid during periods of peak usage and strengthen the region’s energy reliability.

Under the contract, AtkinsRéalis will deliver full multidiscipline engineering and design services to support the growing community’s energy needs, improve load following capability, and enhance service stability for households, critical services, and local businesses. Work includes engineering for all major balance of plant systems, integrating auxiliary systems, water and wastewater networks, cooling systems, and fuel gas infrastructure, along with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation and controls design. By applying a constructability driven framework and leveraging more than 100 years of global energy experience, AtkinsRéalis will help ensure the expanded facility achieves safe, efficient, and resilient performance as Idaho’s energy needs continue to grow.
