AtkinsRéalis, a world-class engineering services and nuclear company with offices around the world, has been appointed by Thames Water as a supplier to its £400m Asset, Capital and Engineering Professional Services framework, to support its infrastructure upgrades over the next five years (2025-2030).
Thames Water anticipates its capital programme during AMP8 will be up to three times the size of its existing programme, as it seeks to address the twin challenge of ageing infrastructure and climate change on its assets.
The framework will give Thames Water access to Engineering, Environmental, Commercial and Programme Management Professional Services worth up to £400m as it works to improve, maintain and innovate its Water Treatment Works, Sewage Treatment Works, and the wider water and sewage network.
Richard Whale, global market director for water at AtkinsRéalis, which has been appointed to all six lots, said: “Thames Water is committed to meeting the challenges of ageing infrastructure, climate change and increased demand with this critical investment in its programme.
“At AtkinsRéalis we are well placed to draw on a breadth of experience across our global operation and deploy a range of multi-disciplinary services to enable our client to deliver on its investment over the next five years.”
The framework has sought to innovate the way in which Thames Water operates with its supply chain, to encourage collaboration across suppliers and extend best practice learnings back into Thames Water.
Preetinder Dhanoa, Capital Procurement Business Partner at Thames Water, said: “We are delighted to confirm these critical framework awards, which will be used to source asset engineering and capital professional services that are critical to the success of Thames Water’s AMP8 programme. This agreement will introduce a number of improvements to our previous arrangements, including driving value through innovation and partnership working."
Thames Water has proposed a highly ambitious business plan for 2025-2030 based on customers’ feedback and insight. The plan will deliver a reliable, secure and affordable service for customers, while further materially improving Thames Water’s environmental footprint, and the establishment of a supplier framework that sets the company up for successful delivery.
The appointment of AtkinsRéalis among a number of other suppliers to the latest framework follows on from its appointment earlier this year as the AtkinsRéalis & Stantec JV to the Technical Partner Framework, giving Thames Water access to professional support services worth up to £300m as it works to advance a number of strategic projects to address future water supply challenges
