Toronto, ON: January 14, 2026– AtkinsRéalis, a world-class engineering services and nuclear company with offices around the world, has been selected by Peel Region to provide engineering services in support of the preliminary and detailed designs for the installation of a new sanitary trunk sewer on Kennedy Road (“Kennedy Road Sanitary Trunk Sewer Project”).
AtkinsRéalis will provide geotechnical, hydrogeological and excess soils management investigations for preliminary design (stage-1) and detailed design (stage-2) for the installation of the sanitary trunk sewer. The project will prioritize stakeholder coordination, proper permitting, and fieldwork logistics to ensure rigorous quality, while proactively mitigating risks related to schedule, site access, and environmental compliance. AtkinsRéalis’ design recommendation will also include construction management methods that reduce surface impact, such as trenchless micro-tunnelling.

Infrastructure to support Ontario’s growth
The Kennedy Road Sanitary Trunk Sewer Project is part of a broader initiative by Peel Region to complete various housing-enabling linear infrastructure projects within Brampton’s central geographic area, to support Ontario’s More Homes Built Faster Act housing supply plan. Under the plan, Ontario targets building 113,000 more residential units in Brampton and 13,000 in Caledon, by 2051.
AtkinsRéalis’ Materials and Geotechnical Testing Laboratory in Vaughan, with its state-of-the-art new equipment and expanded capabilities, will support the Company's work on the Kennedy Road Sanitary Trunk Sewer Project. The lab already fulfills a broad range of materials testing mandates for clients across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), as well as for Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation. AtkinsRéalis further plans to expand its workforce through local hiring to meet the needs of the project.

AtkinsRéalis has worked on several similar projects in Peel Region: the Watermain Replacement on Mount Hope Road (Town of Caledon), the Sanitary Sewer, Storm Sewer and Road Improvement on Cadetta Road (City of Brampton), and the Queensway East Trunk Sewer in the City of Mississauga.
AtkinsRéalis is also undertaking several major infrastructure projects in the GTA to support Ontario’s housing and economic growth targets. These include electricity projects such as the expansion of a Hydro One substation in Bowmanville.
