AtkinsRéalis appointed to Babcock Global Engineering Services Framework

Wednesday 20 May 2026

AtkinsRéalis, a world-class engineering services and nuclear company, has been appointed by Babcock International, a leading UK-based defence company, to its Global Engineering Services Framework to support the delivery of complex defence projects.

Over the next five years, AtkinsRéalis will provide a wide range of engineering services and specialist capability to Babcock across its nuclear, marine, land and aviation divisions - supporting delivery across the UK, including at Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth, Rosyth Royal Dockyard in Scotland and HMNB Clyde, as well as Babcock’s development and sustainment of equipment, mission systems, and platforms.

The framework deepens the two companies’ collaboration on defence infrastructure, with AtkinsRéalis having supported Babcock for more than 15 years on complex, nuclear‑licensed facilities and major capital programmes. This appointment positions AtkinsRéalis to build on this role while extending beyond infrastructure, supporting Babcock across new platforms and mission‑critical systems as defence requirements continue to evolve.

David Clark, AtkinsRéalis Global Market Lead – Defence, said: “Defence investment is increasing across the globe, with growing demand for engineering capability to support both infrastructure and advanced platforms. Alongside our established presence in the UK defence sector, AtkinsRéalis is expanding its capabilities internationally, including in Canada and Australia, where Babcock is exploring further opportunities. This framework provides a strong foundation for scale and collaboration as defence programmes become increasingly global in nature.”

Andy Albutt, AtkinsRéalis Market Director – Defence Infrastructure, UK & Ireland, said: “As the UK and its allies increase investment in defence, Babcock is strengthening its access to specialist engineering expertise to ensure it can meet demand and deliver capability to the frontline at pace. This appointment builds on our long‑standing relationship with Babcock in the UK, extending our multi‑disciplinary role across complex defence infrastructure and new platforms, reflecting how that relationship continues to evolve as defence requirements change.”

David Tytherleigh, Babcock Director of Growth and Strategic Procurement Nuclear, said: “This new supply chain approach allows us to more effectively deliver specialist engineering capability, collaborating with trusted suppliers who are ready to support capacity when required. We’re delighted to be working even more closely with our suppliers to combine our expertise in planning future projects ahead of implementation.”

AtkinsRéalis will provide engineering expertise in technical design, project and programme management, data and digital, nuclear and conventional infrastructure, safety, mission systems, and multi-discipline equipment and platform engineering.

Since 2010, AtkinsRéalis has provided a range of expertise to Babcock at Devonport Royal Dockyard, where the Royal Navy’s nuclear-powered submarines are maintained, refuelled and overhauled. AtkinsRéalis has also supported Babcock at HMNB Clyde, the operational home of the UK Submarine Service, and Rosyth Royal Dockyard, a key manufacturing and maintenance site.
